Role Play
Role playing is one of the devices which helps the students to develop communicative oral skill. Students can speak with fluency as well as accuracy in their speech.
Format of Role Play
There are three basic parts in a role play: situation, roles and useful expressions.
Situation
The situation in which the fictitious role is to be played, should be provided to the learners. If they do not know the situation, they should be introduced with the situation, otherwise there is difficulty to play the assigned roles.
Background knowledge is an essential part to act out the play because participants have to be confident on why they are using the particular form of expression in the way they do. If situation is familiar, they can act out the role using the appropriate expressions as required by the role in the situation.
Situation may be very simple for example telephone call and very complex for example transacting a business. The complexity or ease should be suitable according the level of language proficiency of pupils.
Roles
